“I am sorry.”
This woman always felt so different, so strange, so removed from his world, the mortal world entirely. Sometimes he wondered if she was a goddess that had lost her way, been banished in some way.
But in that moment when sadness wracked her tiny form she felt so very human.
He put an arm around her too.
“My daughter.”
He said, his words quick, as if they were forced out before he could stop himself.
“Someone I love.”
“Dear friends. I have lost too many.”

She did not know how old she was, she knew only that she was very old. She did not even have children or could she even grasp what it felt like to have a family. But she knew she wanted a family with Lir, she wanted love and happiness and all the joys she felt when alongside him and even the pain too.

Suddenly she clung to the man next to her, burying her heart shaped face into his shirt and clutching him close. It was a human thing to do, and it felt neither wrong nor right, but it is what she did. 
Ragnar would lose more in his lifetime and she would watch
It was in her embrace that she spoke of a naive understanding; she understood.
